Privacy policy

SpeakA3 is a private family-tree app. This page explains what it stores, who can see it, and how to have it changed or removed. It is written to describe what the app actually does - if anything here is unclear, email angelonunez2014@gmail.com.

What we store

• Your account: your name, email address and profile picture, from the sign-in you use (for example Google). We don't see or store your password.
• The family tree: what members of a room add about relatives - names and nicknames, gender, birth and death dates and places, occupation, a short bio, education, life events, photos, and how people are related.
• Room membership: who is in each room, their access (can edit or view only), and invitations, including the invited email address.
• Edit history: who added, changed or deleted what, and when.
• On your own device only: small preferences such as the people you pin on the tree. These stay in your browser and aren't sent to us.

Who can see it

• A family tree is visible only to the members of its room - people the room owner (or a member) has invited. It isn't public and isn't listed or searchable on the web.
• Photos are stored privately and are only shown to members of the room they belong to.
• The edit history is visible only to the room owner.
• We don't sell personal information, show ads, or share it with anyone for marketing.

Services that help run SpeakA3

To work, SpeakA3 uses a few service providers, which process data on its behalf:

• Clerk - sign-in and account management.
• Neon - the database that stores the family tree.
• Cloudinary - storage for uploaded photos (kept private).
• Vercel - hosting the website, and counting visits (Vercel Web Analytics: which pages are viewed, without cookies and without identifying you).
• Our own mail server (and, where set up, Resend) - sending invitation emails.

Information about relatives

Family trees naturally include people who haven't signed up themselves. Please add only what your family is comfortable sharing within the room, and be especially careful with living relatives. Anyone listed in a tree can ask for their details to be corrected or removed (see below).

Changing or removing information

• Room members can edit or delete the people they are allowed to manage; the room owner can edit anyone.
• Deleting a person removes their details and photos; deleting a room removes everything in it.
• To remove your account, or to ask for anything about you or a relative to be corrected or deleted, contact the room owner or email angelonunez2014@gmail.com.

Security

Connections to SpeakA3 are encrypted (HTTPS), photos are stored privately, and access to each room is checked on every request. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your family's data.

Children

SpeakA3 accounts are meant for adults. Children may appear in a family tree when a parent or relative adds them; their details are shown only to that room's members.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top.
